Announcing the 2005 Recipients:
___________________________________________________________ Graduate students also have ample opportunities to pursue PhD or MS level degrees with one of our IMD3 faculty. As indicated elsewhere, our program is intended to provide a multidisciplinary environment, with many chances to work in collaborative projects. For example, you might carry out enzyme isolation studies and then work in a chemistry lab to prepare new substrates or inhibitors to test on your preparation. Or you might even be enrolled in an engineering program and collaborate with biologists in the James Graham Brown Cancer Center . Many of our students will have an opportunity to write patents on their discoveries and to interact with the highly touted entrepreneurial program of the U of L School of Business. The Institute for Molecular Diversity and Drug Design (IMD3) at the University of Louisville is now accepting applications for its next group of one-year fellowships. These two (2) Graduate Research Fellowships will be awarded to graduate students in candidacy or entering candidacy under the guidance of an IMD3 faculty member. The fellows will be paid a stipend of $20,000 per year, of which one-half will be provided by the host professor or department.
All Research Fellows are automatically members of the Institute and are expected to participate fully in all IMD3 activities, including seminar programs, Fall Fest and the annual Symposium. Research Fellows may also plan a brief rotation or interdisiplinary research project with another IMD3 lab, preferably in a field not normally experienced in a traditional training regimen (e.g., a synthetic chemist working in a bioassay lab; a pharmacologist interacting with an engineering math and computer scientist, or an M.D./Ph.D. student learning computational chemistry and molecular modeling). Other elements of IMD3 include the opportunity for a the pharmaceutical/biotechnology internship program. See below for additional guidelines and application instructions. IMD3 support is generously provided by the Vice President for Research and by the research grants and contracts awarded to IMD3 faculty. For additional information, please contact Dr. James L. Wittliff, Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Acting Director, IMD3 or Dr. K. Grant Taylor, Professor of Chemistry, Acting Co-Director, IMD3. 1. Criteria for the selection of IMD3 Fellows
